#96 - “How I Finally Shipped My Journalling Class (and Why I Was Stuck)”

Thoughts - Lesson of the Week

These last couple of weeks, I have been pushing my Journalling Class over the line. This idea comes off the back of a mindset shift towards prioritising working on things that are my passions and interests.

It’s a practice I love because of how versatile it is. I’ve used it to help me through some tough times, as well as documenting things to help me spot patterns to give me more clarity for productivity.

A great way I cover in the class is to start is through the 5-minute journalling method, which has three prompts:

  1. I am grateful for:
  2. What would I need to do to make today great?
  3. Daily affirmations

I’ve gotten a huge amount of benefit by doing this consistently for the time investment. I went through it in my recent TikTok video a little bit more.

Having said that, I do admittedly need to take a leaf out of my own book (journal 🙂), because I originally started drafting the class out in February with an expected completion date of 31st March but didn’t end up finishing until the end of last week.

This has made me think back to how productive I was in the early days of my property investing journey, and among other things, I put that down to having accountability partners. The issue is that we all know what we need to do, but sometimes things slip.

Accountability group trial?

I’m mulling the idea of running a weekly or biweekly accountability group. The idea would be to catch up via video meeting. Sort of like a mini mastermind group where we talk about what we’re all working on, what we’re struggling with, etc, with a focus on at least one action point everyone MUST do before the next meet.

I just think it’s a good way to see what others are working on whilst pushing forward on our projects. If you might be interested in something like this, hit reply with ‘Accountability’. I’ll have a look at what interest levels are and see. The plan is initially I’ll keep it quite small, probably a group of 5 and see how we go from there. Let me know!

What I’m Reading

Since the last edition of the newsletter, I’ve just finished reading The Soverign Individual. Easily my book of the year so far.

Originally written in 1997, the book makes predictions about what the world will look like post-turn of the millennium. What I find enlightening isn’t so much the predictions themselves (which are very impressive) but the framework of thinking to view the world and anticipate what's coming next no matter the conditions.

The book discusses where we are economically, in the context of history. So, going from the hunter-gatherer era to the agricultural age, through to the fall of the Roman Empire, Dark Ages, the rise and fall of power of the church, to industrialisation, to where we are now, which the authors call the Information Age.

Especially relevant with the rise of AI and possibly a clue as to where we are headed. How AI has accelerated what, in the past, would have been big cycle changes spanning over centuries now it’s happening over a few years.

It will give you a fresh perspective on how you see the world and what drives change.

Resource of the week

So of course, my free class: Journaling for Clarity & Focus has finally been released. I go through all of the major journalling techniques I’ve used over the years that has helped me the most. If you use my link you get a month of Skillshare for free. As a bonus, for the first 20 people who complete and drop a review for the class, I’ll do a personalised review of your setup and provide any tips/recommendations to tailor it. Just drop me an email once reviewed, thanks!
